Hayley Dunn
My approach is sensitive, collaborative and non-judgmental. I do not give advise or set homework. The sessions are yours to direct as you see fit. I provide a safe place for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and reactions. We work together to find your own unique path to well-being and self acceptance.
I work with people who are experiencing anxiety, who are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out. This may be due to recent experiences, a life time of difficulties or childhood events which have left them feeling unable to cope, or with unhealthy coping strategies. I help my clients to develop or regain a sense of agency and safety in their lives.
Before training as a counsellor I spent many years working as a doula, helping people to adjust to their new responsibilities and identities as parents. As a result, I often work with people who are struggling during the perinatal period (encompassing pregnancy, birth and early parenthood). This may be due to post-natal depression, anxiety or birth trauma, or could be as a result of losing a baby. I am an accredited Traumatic Birth Recovery – 3 Step Rewind practitioner, which is an NLP technique used to gently ease the lingering emotional distress caused by birth or perinatal trauma.
I also work with adults who have recently discovered that they have been struggling due to undiagnosed ADHD or autism. Whilst I am unable to diagnose these conditions, I welcome clients who have self-identified, with or without an official diagnosis. As a neurodivergent counsellor, I am particularly sensitive to how environment, experiences, and changes in circumstances can impact on feelings of safety and well being. As such, I use trauma-informed approaches to provide a calm, safe, welcoming space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences to alleviate anxiety and find self-acceptance.
